Removal of Fine & Colloidal Solids
Fine and colloidal solids consist of microscopic particles that are too small to be removed by most conventional separation methods and therefore remain suspended in the water. Ozone promotes microflocculation, causing these particles to clump together into larger masses that can be readily removed by foam fractionation, filtration, or sedimentation.
Removal of Dissolved Organic Compounds
Dissolved organic compounds are largely non-biodegradable and accumulate according to feed input, water exchange rates, and the efficiency of solids removal. These compounds are responsible for the characteristic tea-coloured appearance often seen in aquaculture water. Ozone oxidises dissolved organic compounds into simpler substances that can be more easily removed, improving water clarity and overall water quality.
Removal of Nitrite
As production intensifies and organic loading increases, nitrite can accumulate to levels that are toxic to fish. Ozone helps maintain a healthier aquatic environment by oxidising nitrite into nitrate, a significantly less toxic form of nitrogen.
Disinfection
High stocking densities, increased fish stress, and elevated nutrient loads within Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) create ideal conditions for disease-causing organisms. Ozone is a powerful disinfectant that effectively destroys a wide range of bacterial, viral, fungal, and protozoan fish pathogens, helping to improve fish health while reducing disease outbreaks.
