Ethylene Control
Ozone can reduce spoilage of fresh fruits and vegetables and delay fruit ripening by directly oxidising ethylene
Extending Freshness and Storage Life
Ozone can help reduce the spoilage of fresh fruits and vegetables by breaking down ethylene in cold-storage and food-processing environments. Ethylene is a naturally occurring gas produced by many fruits as they ripen. By oxidising ethylene, ozone can slow the ripening process and help produce remain fresh for longer.
Reducing Spoilage and Waste
Alongside ethylene control, properly managed ozone treatment can reduce some airborne microorganisms, mould spores and odours within storage areas. This may help minimise product losses, maintain produce quality and extend the useful storage life of susceptible fruits and vegetables.
Controlled and Monitored Treatment
Ozone systems must be carefully designed and monitored for the produce being stored. Different fruits and vegetables have different sensitivities, and excessive ozone exposure may damage some produce. Appropriate sensors, ventilation and safety controls are therefore essential for effective treatment and worker protection.
