Frequently asked questions

What is ozone?

Ozone is a naturally occurring form of oxygen made up of three oxygen atoms. It is a powerful oxidising agent that can help control microorganisms, odours and certain dissolved contaminants in water or air.

How is ozone produced?

Ozone is generated on site using air or concentrated oxygen and a small amount of electricity. Because ozone quickly converts back into ordinary oxygen, it does not need to be transported or stored.

What can an Ozone system be used for?

Ozone systems can be designed for swimming pools, spa pools, rainwater tanks, drinking-water treatment, horticulture, aquaculture, food processing, laundry, odour control, cold storage and a range of commercial or industrial applications.

Which ozone system do I need?

The correct system depends on the application, water volume or airflow, operating conditions and the contaminants being treated. Novozone can assess your requirements and recommend an appropriately sized generator, injection system and associated equipment.

Can ozone completely replace chlorine or other chemicals?

Ozone can substantially reduce the need for conventional treatment chemicals in many applications. However, some systems may still require a residual sanitiser or additional filtration to meet applicable safety and water-quality requirements. Each installation should be assessed individually.

Is ozone safe?

Ozone is highly effective when generated and applied through a correctly designed system. Because concentrated ozone gas can irritate the eyes and respiratory system, equipment must be properly sized, installed and operated. Commercial and industrial installations may also require ozone monitoring, ventilation or ozone-destruction equipment.

How is ozone introduced into water?

Ozone is commonly drawn into the water through a venturi injector, producing a stream of fine bubbles. Good mixing and sufficient contact time help transfer the ozone into the water and improve treatment performance.

Does an ozone system require servicing?

Yes. Regular servicing is important because ozone is a powerful oxidiser and components naturally deteriorate with use. Preventative maintenance helps maintain ozone output, treatment performance and system reliability.

How often should an ozone system be serviced?

Most ozone systems should be inspected and serviced approximately every 12 months. Equipment operating continuously or in dusty, humid or demanding industrial conditions may require servicing every six months. The appropriate interval depends on the model, operating hours, feed-gas quality and application.

What does a service include?

Servicing may include cleaning and inspecting the ozone cell, replacing air filters, checking tubing, seals, valves and electrical components, inspecting the venturi injector and testing ozone output. Oxygen concentrators, air dryers and monitoring equipment should also be checked where fitted.

What are the signs that a service might be needed?

Possible signs include reduced water quality, returning odours, increased chemical demand, reduced bubbling, unusual noise, warning indicators or noticeably lower ozone output. If system performance changes, the equipment should be inspected even if its scheduled service is not yet due.

Can Novozone service equipment from other manufacturers?

Yes. Novozone has the specialist knowledge, tools and testing equipment needed to service and repair many ozone generators, including systems supplied by other manufacturers. Contact us with the brand, model and a description of the problem.

How long does an ozone generator last?

Service life depends on the model, operating hours, environmental conditions and maintenance. A correctly sized system that receives regular preventative servicing should provide dependable operation for many years, although filters, tubing, seals and other consumable components will require periodic replacement.

Does Novozone supply replacement parts?

Replacement cells, tubing, filters and other service components may be available for Novozone systems and selected equipment from other manufacturers. Please provide the model number and, if possible, photographs of the unit when contacting us.

Does Novozone provide installation advice?

Yes. Novozone can advise on system selection, positioning, injection, contact time, ventilation and other installation requirements. Installation must comply with relevant electrical, plumbing, workplace and water-treatment requirements.

Which is the best way to request advice or information?

Contact Novozone with details of what you need to treat, the water volume or airflow, your current treatment method and the problem you want to solve. Photographs, water-test results and equipment specifications can also help us recommend the most suitable solution.
